Off-Grid EV Charging Solution with Cyclone-Resistant Solar Carport for Remote Mining Operations

Off-Grid EV Charging Solution with Cyclone-Resistant Solar Carport for Remote Mining Operations

Off-Grid EV Charging Solution with Cyclone-Resistant Solar Carport for Remote Mining Operations

Funding body :

Department of Education, Skills and Employment, Trailblazer program for resources technology & critical minerals

Researcher:

Dr. Yang Du, Prof. Bouchra Senadji

Project Overview:

This project aims to develop and demonstrate an off-grid, solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging carport designed for remote and cyclone-prone regions. The system integrates solar photovoltaic panels, battery energy storage, and AI-based energy management software to deliver reliable, grid-independent charging.

A prototype will be built at JCU’s Cairns campus and tested for cyclone resistance at JCU’s Cyclone Testing Station in Townsville. The project supports the mining industry’s transition to low-emission operations and strengthens JCU’s role in advancing clean energy and resilient infrastructure solutions.
